Not at all! While our core audience is primarily adults aged 65 and over who live within York Region, TALYR has absolutely no age or geographic restrictions for membership. We welcome anyone who shares a passion for lifelong learning. For our Fall and Winter online webinar series, you can stream our lectures from anywhere around the globe. For our In-Person Spring semesters, the only limiting factor is your ability to travel to our venue in Aurora.

TALYR is a proud member of the Third Age Network (TAN), an association of about 25 independent lifelong learning organizations across Ontario. This network allows us to share educational best practices, collaborate on technological solutions, and maintain ties to a vibrant provincial community of non-profit learning groups.

Yes. TALYR is a non-partisan, non-sectarian educational organization. Our guest lecturers are content experts chosen strictly for their academic authority, research depth, and ability to deliver engaging presentations. Please note that the views, information, and opinions expressed during our lectures are solely those of the individual presenters and do not reflect the official policy or position of TALYR.

We highly encourage it! At the conclusion of every lecture series, we distribute a digital user survey asking for your feedback. If you suggest a high-quality speaker, our Program Committee will happily look into vetting them. Even better: if we successfully book an expert speaker directly from your referral, TALYR will reward you with a Free Series Pass for an upcoming semester as a thank-you!

All TALYR lecture series are restricted exclusively to our Active paid Members. If the system is preventing you from registering, your annual membership status may be Lapsed or Pending Renewal. To fix this, click the Log In button at the top right of the homepage, and when you are logged into your account, click on your name to view your personal Profile, and reinstate your annual membership fee first.

To give our members maximum flexibility, we change our operational model depending on the format of the semester:

• Online Webinars (Fall and Winter Series): We operate on a "Per-Device" model. Your ticket covers a single device and a single registered email address. This means multiple people in your household can enjoy the presentation via that single device/login. If you wish to watch from different computers, rooms, or devices, additional tickets are required for each device/login.
• In-Person Lectures (Spring Series): We operate on a traditional seating model in a theatre in Aurora, Ontario. Every attendee must purchase their own individual ticket on a "per-seat" basis.

No. We are unable to offer single-session tickets. Your paid ticket entitles you to attend all presentations in an entire series.

When you purchase a ticket for one of our Webinar series, you will receive a confirmation that directs you to a second mandatory step — registration of your email address directly with Zoom. Zoom will then send its own confirmation and will supply you with a personalized link to join the webinars. You will use the same link for each webinar in the series, so keep the Zoom Confirmation with the "Join" link in a safe place. Zoom will also automatically send you a reminder 1 day and 1 hour in advance of each webinar, and that auto-reminder will also contain your personalized link to join.

No. You only need a device connected to the internet and the free Zoom Workplace application installed. Because TALYR utilizes the secure Zoom Webinar format, your personal camera and microphone are completely turned off by default. You can sit back and enjoy the presentation in total privacy.

Absolutely! We strongly encourage audience interaction. Although your microphone will be muted, you are encouraged to type your questions into the Q&A box on your Zoom screen at any point during the lecture. The speaker will address as many questions as possible during our live question-and-answer period following the formal presentation.

Yes. Subject to the agreement of each Speaker, it is our intention and practice to record each webinar. To protect the intellectual property rights of our speakers, we do place some reasonable restrictions on access to the recordings, but they will be available to paid ticket holders for a period of 2 weeks after the live session.

Our local, in-person lecture series are hosted at the Aurora Cineplex Odeon Theatre (15460 Bayview Ave, Aurora, ON). The venue is situated just north of Wellington Street, is completely accessible for all mobility needs, and features an abundance of free parking directly on-site.

No. TALYR does not have the technology to record live presentations from the Cineplex theatre in a quality format.
